Approximately 5.5 acres
Opening Date
August 14, 2004
Acquisition
In January 2003, a committee of interested citizens asked the Board of Park Commissioners for an area where they could recreate off-leash with their pets.
The committee agreed to raise the funds since development and maintenance funds were not in the district’s budget. The ATPD agreed to dedicate a portion of Kellogg Park along with ATPD expertise, labor, equipment and management skills to organize the combined efforts of staff and volunteers. After many fundraisers, the Dog Field opened less than two years after the committee first petitioned the ATPD. The Dog Field at Kellogg Park has used no capital funding. Everything has been funded through the efforts of the volunteer citizen committee.
Description
This 5 acre pooch playground features an area for
all-sized dogs and another designed for small pooches. A pavestone walkway
leads to a gated transfer paddock which allows for a safe exit and entrance
point. An 8 foot fence surrounds a large, open space for running and a
natural grove filled will tall trees. There is plenty of room to run and
there are places to relax in the shade or on the benches scattered throughout
the Field. Water is currently available in a nearby concession/restroom
building and at a fountain along the path leading to the Field.
